LAYOFF -- DOWNSIZING TERRIBLE WORDS ANY TIME OF YEAR
|
|---|
What does big business care about? Their employees and making sure they have a nice holiday season? Not really. They care about their bottom line, and if it is necessary to downsize to put the company in a better profit position, you can be sure they won't ask if it is close to Christmas, or Thanksgiving, or your child's birthday. They will simply give out that pink slip with a "Sorry -- it was great having you as an employee, but we have to take care of ourselves."
Have you been hit by one of these unexpected layoffs? Either yourself, or a close family member or friend? It seems to me the last several years there have been announcements of large layoffs, and right at the holiday season. And this year is no different -- more layoffs from large companies were just announced.
You might want to go talk to these people who just got laid off -- suggest they join you in your MLM business. On the other hand, this is NOT the best time to do that. The BEST time to approach someone about building an MLM business is when they HAVE a job. Why?
It takes TIME and MONEY to build a successful home business. I also feel a person does so much better if he is not under pressure to succeed. Do you think someone is under pressure to make money FAST if he just lost his job, is living on Unemployment, and has to replace that income ASAP? A few people may react to this situation favorably -- take the challenge and build a substantial income in a short amount of time.
But my guess is that 98% of those faced with the above situation -- out of work and needing to create a substantial income and FAST -- will not be able to do it in MLM. If they were that type of person, I think they would have set up their own business and been their own boss long ago -- with no worry about downsizing.
My feeling is the BEST time to talk to someone about starting that dream business is when they are fully employed and don't have a lot of worry about bills. Oh, not to say they don't worry about paying the bills. Most everyone could use extra income to help with those bills which seem to keep piling up. But desire for some extra income, and needing to create a full income support system are two different things. I feel the stress of needing a full time JOB is not the kind of stress you want someone under as they work with you to build a substantial income with your MLM.
But get a person started with a good business when they are fully employed. Train them in the right way to build that business. Help them get it going so they see those first commission checks and are encouraged to keep building. Get them making a few hundred extra dollars a month.
THEN, if they get hit by that downsizing at their JOB, they KNOW that their MLM business can and will work -- and they can CONTINUE to build the business. They have a strong foundation to build on, and are not starting from scratch.
A person making $300 to $1,000 part time with a solid MLM business (by solid I mean it should have a product or service that is sold each month so that there is money going into the company on a regular basis, which means commissions can come out on a regular, monthly basis) is in a good position to make the move to go full time, and take advantage of that downsizing to move into high gear and go for it.
But consider it probably took that person several years to reach that part time income. A person newly laid off does NOT have a couple years to build a business. They are under the gun to get that income rolling NOW, and I don't feel they make a good prospect for my MLM at this time in their life.
Do introduce your business opportunity to these newly displaced people -- but PLEASE, encourage them to work at it as a part time income biz -- and encourage them to find a new job. Then if they get downsized on the new job, or don't like it -- they will also be building their own home business so in a few years they will be in a position to QUIT and go full time working from home, IF THAT IS WHAT THEY WANT TO DO!
If there are major layoffs in your area -- do introduce your business to those who are looking for work. But DON'T approach them as if your homebiz is going to replace their JOB. Encourage them to keep looking for a job, but to start that home business part time. If you happen to find one of those 2% who will take the business and RUN with it, and will replace their JOB with the homebiz income -- they'll let you know by their performance. But please, don't try to hype someone that starting a homebiz with you will replace that JOB right away.
